Short Bio

I received my PhD in Politics in 2012 from the New School for Social Research. I am Research Associate on the POLITAGE project (PI Roberto Farneti) at Faculty of Economics and Management at the Free University of Bolzano. I am Senior Researcher in the Human Rights Center of the University of Dayton. I am Co-I in the research project Commodifying Compassion: Implications of Turning People and Humanitarian Causes into Marketable Things (2016-2022) based at Copenhagen Business School (PI Lisa A. Richey). My research focuses on civil society, new media, public-private partnerships, and the role of non-state actors such as celebritiesNGOs, and business in the global governance of human rights, humanitarianism and development, and genocide. My first book, co-authored with Lisa A. Richey, is entitled BATMAN SAVES CONGO: CELEBRITY, DISRUPTION AND THE POLITICS OF DEVELOPMENT (forthcoming Spring 2021 with University of Minnesota Press). I live in the Italian Alps with my collaborator Andrea Carlà and two bambini.
